A Rooted Generation pathway · Formation before your child arrives

Before the First Cry

A six-week formation journey for expecting couples

Coming Soon
“Your child is not yet here. But your parenting has already begun.”

Most parents prepare extensively for birth and almost nothing for the life that follows it. Before the First Cry is a formation programme, not a parenting class. Over six weeks, expecting couples name the person they are raising, examine what each of them carries from their own upbringing, design the home their child will be born into, and make commitments to each other and to the generation they are beginning.

The programme is grounded in biblical truth. Each session is anchored in Scripture, because the One who is forming your child is the wisest guide for raising them. Couples of every background are welcome.

“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13 (NKJV)

Formation that reaches your child before they arrive

Every couple receives a Prenatal Formation Practice Card and a short weekly practice to do at home: speaking to your baby, declaring blessing over them, welcoming them, and imagining the life ahead. Your baby is already learning the sound of your voices. These practices turn that season into intentional formation.

What you leave with

  • A Parenting Vision Statement: your north star
  • A Home Culture Declaration: five to seven founding statements
  • A First Year Rhythm and Language List, designed with intention
  • A Cycle Breaker Commitment, named and chosen
  • Formation goals for each stage from birth through adolescence
  • A signed Family Formation Charter
  • A community of parents, with a six-month check-in gathering after your babies arrive

Who it is for

For

  • First-time expecting couples, ideally beginning in the second trimester so the six weeks finish well before the due date
  • Couples willing to reflect honestly together
  • Couples who want to build their home intentionally on biblical truth

Not for

  • Couples not yet expecting. See Before the First Yes.
  • Couples in acute relational crisis
  • Anyone seeking therapy, clinical or medical support

Before the First Cry is formation and spiritual preparation. It does not replace the care of your midwife, doctor or counsellor.

How it works

  • Six weekly 90-minute sessions in small cohorts of 4–6 couples
  • Facilitated by Faith Owolabi, with a workbook for each couple
  • Places are offered by referral and a personal intake conversation, not open sign-up

Share a few details and Faith will be in touch personally. There is no commitment at this stage.
